AVA- Details have surfaced from Thursday morning’s accident between a vehicle and a tractor trailer in Northern Oneida County.

It happened shortly after 6:00 a.m. along State Route 294 in the town of Ava, between Gleasman Road and State Route 26 in West Leyden, NY.

According to updates via the Sheriff’s Office, Jeffrey Zehr, 58, of Castorland, NY was backing a MACK Truck, with an attached platform trailer, into a logging lot.

Meanwhile, Corinda Seelman, 39, of Constableville, NY was heading east in a 2023 Subaru Forester and reportedly failed to observe the platform trailer, due to lack of Retro Reflective Sheeting as well as heavy rainfall, which impaired visibility, police said.

This resulted in a collision between Corinda’s Subaru and the side of the platform trailer.

Emergency officials said that Corinda sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Boonville Ambulance to Wynn Hospital for further medical treatment.

At the same time, Jeffrey was cited for unspecified commercial vehicle violations, which are returnable to the Town of Ava Court at a later date and time.

A portion of State Route 294 was closed off, but since has since reopened to normal traffic.

New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, New York State Troopers, Town of Boonville Fire Department and Ambulance services, Town of West Leyden Fire Department and Ambulance services as well as Cushmans Auto & Towing all assisted.
