FROSTBURG — A local business in downtown Frostburg continues to grow as a destination for fiber crafter near and far.

Opened in Aug. 2015, The Frostburg Fiber Depot has quickly grown into a community staple, expanding its offerings to meet the demand for quality product and instructional classes by opening a Fabric Store.

The venture was founded by mother-daughter team, Charlotte Clark and Jennie Reams. The pair began taking classes together 20 years ago, and the hobby has grown into their passion. Reams runs the day-to-day operations and says she never could have expected this level of success.

“When we started, it was with the intention of opening a small hobby shop, mainly selling quality, American-made yarn and knitting implements,” said Reams. “We’ve grown so much at this point that we bought our own building with a secondary storefront to house our new fabric store, and in 2022, we opened the Knit Inn which is located above the yarn and fabric stores. It’s a luxurious crafting themed AirBNB which can sleep up to 13.

“We maintain a huge selection of top-notch yarn as well as knitting and crochet materials, and and have added high end, apparel fabrics in the new storefront. I was even awarded a grant this year to further expand, which has generated a lot of excitement.”

The shop has built a customer base of knitters, crocheters, and more. Reams says it not uncommon to receive orders from as far away as British Columbia and has even had individuals drive from Minnesota to visit her store.

Longtime customer Morgan Mayer, says, “It’s a really special place with such a sense of community about it.”

Classes have always been popular and draw groups anywhere form 4-14 individuals, and teach skills that range from Intro to Knitting, Sewing, and Crochet through to Advance Garment Construction and projects like Fair Isle Hats and Sewing a Custom Fitting Pair of Trousers.

The Frostburg Fiber Depot is located at 87 and 89 E Main St in Frostburg and is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday and Sunday, and its also open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. The Grand Opening for the Fabric Store is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 2nd from 5-8pm and will feature light refreshments and a ribbon cutting.
